Yoram Yasur: Puerto Escondido, between Acapulco and Huatulco
Puerto Escondido is located within the municipality of San Pedro Mixtepec, on the coast of the State of Oaxaca, about 800 kilometers from Mexico City, on the Pacific Ocean, between two other beautiful summer locations, Acapulco and Huatulco. A beautiful place to visit all year round, with average temperatures of 27 degrees Celsius and that has an international airport.
A growing attraction
Yoram Yasur: At the beginning of the 20th century, what used to be a small fishing port begins to export coffee from the surrounding plantations, as commercial activity grows, more people arrive and discover the beauty of the area, which is transformed into a city.
In the 1960s they began to transport coffee in trucks and the port lost its validity, at the same time as tourism grew, young surfers arrived attracted by the excellent waves and everything changed. Numerous hotels were built, some with up to four stars, and the small palapas, where the fishermen themselves offered meals based on fresh fish, gave way to restaurants with all the modern comforts.
Yoram Yasur: Everything is beautiful and picturesque in Puerto Escondido, for example, near the Main Bay we find El Adoquin or El Adoquinado which is the oldest part and attracts the most visitors; We can also visit the Botanical Center accompanied by a biologist who explains what plants we see and speaks to us in addition to the animals in the region; A third lovely walk is the one that takes us to the lone lighthouse on top.
Beaches for all tastes
Yoram Yasur: For those who like the sea, there are several beaches that it offers: Zicatela Beach, three kilometers long, the third best in the world for surfing; Main Beach, with turquoise waters and gentle waves, ideal for swimming, diving and fishing; Playa Bacocho, with the rusticity provided by the cliffs covered with vegetation; Carrizalillo beach which is reached by descending stairs with fine sand and calm waves; Puerto Angelito beach that has a famous restaurant and Puerto Manzanillo with its warm waters where swimming is a total pleasure.
In recent times it is becoming fashionable to visit also the Barra de Colotepec, place where the river of the same name flows into the ocean, the palapas that are assembled there serve excellent seafood and is only six kilometers away. If you want to enhance your traveling experience try to listen to your favorite music.
Yoram Yasur: At the beginning of November the preselection begins to choose Miss Puerto Escondido, who will preside over the local fiestas in the last week of the same month, which starts with a popular festival; there are two tournaments, one of surfing and another of sport fishing and two other queens are selected, Miss Bikini and Miss Surf; Another important attraction is the great culinary show that is performed simultaneously with the celebrations. On December 18, the Virgen de la Soledad is venerated. She is the patron saint of the fishermen of the port, making a pilgrimage to the sea. The entire coast of Mexico on the Pacific Ocean is spectacular, but this little corner has a lot of special and you have to be there to perceive it.
